Brush Cleansing Mat

Cleaning your makeup brushes is pretty much everyone's pet peeve, it's not an overly enjoyable task, it can be very time-consuming (especially if you've not done it for a while...) and yeah, all in all, it's pretty boring, but it has to be done.

Now there are a million different ways that claim to be 'the best way to clean your brushes', 'the best tools to help clean your brushes' and so on. But there is not just one way that is best for everyone, it all depends on how often you use each brush, what product you use on the brush and the list goes on and on.

I'd been eyeing up Sigma's brush cleaning mat, but, unfortunately, being a student I couldn't bring myself to pay the hefty price tag that followed the brand, so like any makeup fiend would do, I quickly ebayed a cheap dupe.

Dupe of Sigma Brush Cleaning Mat | £5.51

Even though it was being delivered from China? the parcel came rather fast and I couldn't wait to use it. Guys, I think this mat is going to change my life. It supposedly fits in most sinks and has suction cups on the back to help keep it in place while you're cleaning.

The mat is split into six parts which all have a different purpose:
1. Wash Face
2. Refine Face
3. Rinse Face
4. Wash Eyes
5. Refine Eyes
6. Rinse Eyes

The wash part of the mat have quite a large surface area and tends to get the bulk of the makeup out of the brushes; the refine aspect are thinner and closer together, this is to ensure it gets into the hard to reach places to give a thorough clean and the rinse section is quite large to make sure no soap is left in your brush before you're done (personally I leave the tap running while I rinse to make absolutely sure all soap/makeup is removed). This mat thoroughly cleaned my brushes much better than the brush egg or my hands have ever done. It chopped the cleaning time significantly and it made a very repetitive task less dreary.

Another item I want to get my hands on for helping to clean my brushes is Real Techniques Brush Cleansing Palette. It fits over the whole hand and claims to clean brushes 55% better.  If I get round to purchasing it then I'll upload my thoughts. Currently, I'm really happy with my cleansing mat so it will probably end up at the bottom of the wishlist!
