A few weeks ago Tarte sent out a newsletter email with a new promo: they were doing a £50 makeup kit. The concept of this was that you were given a category and each category had a choice of product and colour which means you can build up your own kit. Each item would be full sized and it would always equal £50 no matter what you picked up. I have tried a few of Tarte's products before and had been really impressed so I decided to grab this offer as a chance to experiment with some of Tarte's products and this was a little treat to myself for finishing my master's dissertation.

So the categories you got to pick were: a makeup bag, a foundation, a blusher, mascara, eyeliner, a lipstick and a makeup brush.
Everything on this deal was sold out super fast so a lot of the products and colours I wanted to try were not available so I did have to settle in some cases.

I chose the unicorn fabric cosmetic bag because who wouldn't love a holographic makeup bag, although I'm not sure if this was specifically sold for this deal or not because I can't seem to find it on their website anymore. For foundation, I picked the empowered hybrid gel foundation in light-medium beige | £30. This is supposed to be a full coverage, poreless foundation which sounded right up my street, however when I tested it I'm not a huge fan of the colour or the smell of this foundation. The brush I picked was the swirl power contour and bronzer brush | £30. It's a tiny bit too large to fit into most of my contour powders so I have to be quite careful with it but overall I really like this brush.

For the lip option, I really wanted a liquid lipstick but all the shades I wanted were out of stock so I chose the drench lip splash in firework | £17. I absolutely love this colour and I don't have many red lipsticks so I was very happy with this. The downside is that the formula is more satin and creamy than a matte finish which means I'm always going to be worrying that the product will move.

I never normally wear blush so this was a difficult option to choose, I was very limited for shades - this one is definitely a bit too pink for me: Amazonian clay 12-hour blush in fearless | £23. As I thought when I tested it, it's really not my colour so I don't think I'll be keeping this. For Mascara, my fave is the tarteist mascara but this wasn't an option so I decided to try their new launch lights, camera, lashes 4 in 1 mascara in black | £19. I'm beyond impressed with this mascara, the length and volume it gives is amazing; considering I have very few lashes, it didn't make them clumpy or draw attention to the sparse areas. Lastly, for eyeliner, I picked up the lights, camera, lashes closeup lash liner in black | £17. I don't normally wear eyeliner but when I do, I usually use a liquid liner so I found the application of this pencil to be very tricky but the pigmentation and formula of this product is lovely!

In total, these products separately would have cost me: £136 + the price of the bag. So I saved £86, was able to test lots of new products and find some hidden gems!

Did you purchase this kit - what did you pick up?
